From the City parks to the sea: seven new venues for a fairytale wedding

Cagliari is expanding its selection of venues for weddings and civil unions. Seven new locations in Monte Urpinu, Parco della Musica and Terramaini. These new places join existing venues, from Poetto Beach to the Bastione di Saint Remy.

Getting married in Cagliari, surrounded by green parks, panoramic terraces and the Mediterranean Sea, will soon offer even more possibilities. The City Council has approved seven new locations for wedding and civil union ceremonies, expanding the range of public spaces available to couples.

The decision, approved by the municipal government following a proposal by Deputy Mayor Maria Cristina Mancini, also represents an opportunity to strengthen the city’s appeal as a tourist destination.

Where to Get Married in Cagliari: Seven New Wedding Venues

The new wedding locations are spread across three of the city’s green spaces:

  • Monte Urpinu Park: two ceremony locations surrounded by greenery in one of Cagliari’s best-known parks.

  • Parco della Musica: two new wedding venues in an urban area dedicated to culture and events.

  • Terramaini Park: three ceremony locations within one of the city’s largest public parks.

These new options complement the existing venues for civil weddings: San Michele Castle, the Bastione terrace, the Lazzaretto cultural centre, the Public Gardens and five designated locations on Poetto Beach.

Couples can therefore choose from a variety of settings, ranging from historic landmarks and gardens to seaside ceremonies.

Beach Weddings and Historic Venues: Cagliari Embraces Wedding Tourism

The expansion of wedding venues also presents an opportunity for wedding tourism in Sardinia. In fact a growing segment of the travel industry involves couples who choose to marry away from their place of residence. Cagliari offers several attractive features for destination weddings: a Mediterranean climate, beautiful beaches, historic architecture, excellent local cuisine and a wide range of accommodation options for couples and their guests.

From Poetto Beach to panoramic terraces overlooking the city, the new wedding locations could make Sardinia’s capital increasingly appealing to couples from mainland Italy and abroad. Wedding tourism also extends far beyond the ceremony itself. Destination weddings generate demand for accommodation, restaurants, photographers, florists, event planners and activities for guests. This creates business opportunities across the local economy.

The sector could also help extend Sardinia’s tourist season, particularly during spring and autumn, when the island’s mild temperatures are often ideal for outdoor celebrations.

New Opportunities for Private Wedding Venues

The initiative will not be limited to public spaces. The Municipality of Cagliari has announced that it will soon publish a call for expressions of interest from private venues wishing to host civil wedding ceremonies. This could further expand the city’s wedding offering by involving hotels, hospitality businesses and event venues that meet the required criteria.

Some previously considered locations have been excluded from the updated lis. Among them, certain areas along the beach, the Ex Distilleria, the Marina Piccola amphitheatre and the area beneath the large ficus tree in Giardini Pubblici.

Cagliari: A Year-Round Wedding Destination in Sardinia

The introduction of new wedding venues marks another step towards establishing Cagliari as an attractive destination for couples planning to get married in Sardinia.

The city has the potential to position itself not only as a summer holiday destination but also as a place for weddings, special celebrations and extended stays throughout the year.

For couples dreaming of a destination wedding in Sardinia, the opportunity to choose between gardens, historic monuments and beach locations offers greater flexibility while showcasing the city’s cultural and natural heritage.

The next challenge will be turning this expanded range of venues into a concrete tourism opportunity, involving local businesses and promoting Cagliari in both domestic and international markets.
